Can we get a do-over?
And with the first pick of the 2006 NFL draft, the Houston Texans take Reggie Bush, running back, USC.
[the crowd roars!]
Sigh. If only that had truly occurred. Because watching the Texans get creamed by the Eagles and Colts the first two games of this season has been tough. Now, these are two good teams, but there have been embarrassing mistakes. Fumbled snaps, horrible secondary coverage, no improvement in either of the lines.
Reggie Bush hasn't put up stupid numbers yet, but there have been flashes of awesomeness. That's way more that can be said of our real first pick, Mario Williams. So much for drafting to improve the defense. I still have yet to see pressure on the quarterback. Our secondary has been pitiful. Every play yesterday when the Colts completed a pass, there wasn't a defender within 10 yards of the receiver, it seemed.
And while no one can technically fault the numbers that David Carr has put up (he may still have a 100+ QB rating), all his numbers have been in garbage time, when the game is well put away. The offense has looked timid and mistake-prone early in games. Carr has gotten no protection; I have really yet to see a sack that is the result of him making a poor decision.
I'm sick to death of the "defense wins championships" mantra that the pundits repeat like parrots. We're light years away from a championship here in Houston. Screw parity in the league, we need someone who will get people excited about this team, and Reggie Bush was that guy. I want something to look forward to each week, and watching Mario Williams NOT get a tackle isn't it.
I'm still a Texans fan, but until they show they can draft intelligently and pick up free agents that don't suck, I'm not holding out hope for a playoff appearance any time in the two-zero-oughts.
At least Da Bears are looking dominant and their offense is discovering itself under Rex Grossman. I think they dropped something near 40 points on the Detroit kitty cats this past weekend. If their offense is half as good as that the rest of the season, I'm smelling Superbowl, because their defense is scary.

Stupid people are making me stupider, goddamit.
I have seen the word "hypocrite" misspelled so many times now as "hypocrit" that I'm having a hard time remembering which spelling is correct.
It is quite possible that someday, the collective ignorance of the, well, ignorant, will trump what is well-documented in any dictionary, and the dictionaries themselves may one day have to change to accommodate new spellings of old words that have been grossly abused and misused by people who really have no business fucking around in the arena of written language to begin with.
I blame the internet for this. Not only has it made people lazy - making "u" a perfectly acceptable(?) stand-in for "you" - but it also proliferates other people's ignorance like a virus. If enough people fuck up one thing enough times, does the fuck up suddenly become the norm?
I had no idea that so many people were as un- or under-educated as they appear to be, but the internet not only has exposed them, but somehow given them their own platform for spreading the disease of their stupidity around. And the most brilliant thing about them? When you point out how uniformly unprepared they are for a life of written communication, they almost always make the excuse that grammar/spelling isn't important because they aren't in English class.
Uh, PRECISELY. It's not important to YOU, educational fuck-ups and those of reduced mental capabilities, because you are simply TOO IGNORANT to even appreciate the elegance of communicating properly and effectively, let alone treasure anything above a 4th grade education.
It sometimes makes me want to scream. Screme? Screem? $c|233|v|?

The moral ambiguity of mechanically separated chicken
There's one part of you that is disgusted at the thought of mechanically separated chicken and the non-descript chicken nougat that's spewed at as a result. Then there's the other part of you that thinks, "dang, if McNuggets ain't tasty!"
